I thought that the writing was along the lines of Roald Dahl, however unlike Dahl's writing there was a moral to this story, which surprised me a little bearing in mind David Walliams' comedy! I would give a word of warning that there is quite a sad event in this book, which may be a little upsetting for more sensitive children. Walliams pulls a mind-scrambler at the beginning of act three of this book. He has the titular granny die of cancer. However Ben soon realises that his grandmother has hidden talents beyond cabbage soup and soon hatches a plan to steal the Crown Jewels whilst evading a nosey neighbour played by Rob Brydon.

She turns out to be quite an interesting lady who gets them off the hook!Granny dies, and her jewellery box is donated to charity. Ben reads at his local newsagent's that a jewellery box worth millions had been anonymously left at a charity shop. Granny's legacy is remembered at Christmas, when the Queen delivers a message saying that young people should be more caring towards the elderly, in which she indirectly mentions her meeting with Ben and Granny in the Tower of London. it was funny, educative (pigs almost do NOT have sweat glands) and emotional and it was a little bit deep too. The book has been adapted into a one-hour film for BBC One, which aired at Christmas in 2013.
