His collaborators include the London Mozart Players, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Find photos of different places in London and use these as inspiration for your own art work (see Resources below). At Trafalgar Square they meet a talking stone lion, and he takes them on a wonderful tour of the city taking in such sights as The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye! This picture book mingles fantasy with information most successfully… a lively introduction to some of the main London sights within the context of an appealing story…The text keeps up the pace of the story and includes a lot of convincing dialogue. I know most of the landmarks Katie visits, and the older granddaughter brought it home from her own visit.

I'd like to think that if I had visited London as a child, I would have read this book beforehand to get myself hyped up!We have all extracted joy from the notion that one of the lions at the base of Nelson's column comes to life and carries Katie all over the place. One of the Trafalgar Square lions comes to life and takes them on a wonderful tour of all the best sights!

In a city with so much exciting and interesting aspects, we should encourage our children to embrace it,, and this book presents an opportunity to do just that. We were in Trafalgar Square recently and he was thrilled to see the lions on their plinths, just like the lion in the book, and he started talking about all the places the lion visits, so the book clearly caught his imagination. A beautiful story to capture any child if looking to use London as a topic or about to visit London itself. James Mayhew studied at Maidstone College of Art and his first children's book, Katie's Picture Show was published in 1989.

He has made regular appearances at the National Galleries in Edinburgh and London and visits many schools, and arts and literary festivals. It depicts all the famous London sights such as Trafalgar Square, St Paul's' Cathedral,The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament. This one is introducing the city of London and I think it would work well for both children familiar with London as well as those who have never been. Featuring many of London’s key landmarks, this storybook has become a bestselling introduction to London, and is perfect for children visiting the city for the first time. Katie and her brother go out with their Grandma one day, she asks them to sit down by the Lion on Trafalgar Square and wait for her and so the fun begins!
