About this deal

He asked me what I was looking for and once again I didn’t really know, however this time I knew what I didn’t want. I went through that bottle quicker than any other bottle I’ve had to date… well, maybe the Ardnamurchan Cask Strength went quicker. Worms are also made from copper, but the influence is less significant than the effect of rapid cooling that captures the remaining heavy compounds and adds texture. An eternal creative tinkerer, whisky was hidden from him until fairly recently, but it lit an inspirational fire. The prospect of chatting whisky in my current phase of rampant burrowing into whiskyland, was palpable.

I want to explore more of the meaty notes from this distillery and need to find the 17 yo release somewhere. Would the Craigellachie be the same, or would there be a clearer difference between the two 13 year old expressions? You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The issue I have with a Speyside sherry bomb dram is they can be a bit too cloying, a bit too dark and fruity, almost teetering over to sour. Initially, the whisky matures in ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks before undergoing a resting period of just over a year in Bas-Armagnac casks.I’m also not saying that you would have loved it, because it seems to be one of those malts that people either love or hate.

Other distilleries with worm tubs include Talisker, the new Rosebank, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Edradour, Oban, Glenkinchie, Springbank and Pultney. Craigellachie Single Malt Whisky is the rock at the heart of Speyside, yet is anything but your typical 'Speyside' Whisky. Of all these tasty whiskies I’ve tried and liked, the Craigellachie 13 still sits in its own little niche. Bonfire night: aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of sulphury, cordite lingering in the background. There is a rich burnt pineapple straight off the bat and gives a pleasant smell of slight smoke produced from a hog roast. I had to stuff it away in the cupboard quickly out of sight or it would have been an awkward conversation in the morning. The inaugural release in this collection showcases the award-winning 13-year-old Craigellachie Single Malt, artfully finished in Bas-Armagnac casks originating from the northernmost region of Gascony, France. Craigellachie 13 Year Old offers whisky enthusiasts a combination of fruity taste added to a current of smoke flying through the middle. Speaking of which, a rather lovely pastel yellow and nicely textured paper is deployed on the Craigellachie 13 labels, lending a tré-vintage and endearing aesthetic to the bottle.

This may affect factors including the product style and allergen information, and we would advise that you always check the label and not solely rely on the information presented here. So when the Craigellachie 13yo, in all its mellow-yellow labelled, worm-tubby deliciousness passed over my palate, I knew there was more work to be done in Speyside.Unveiled in 2014 as part of the trio of official Craigellachie bottlings, their 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky eloquently embodies the distillery's audacious and robust essence. It begins promisingly on the front palate, but the development and finish has some notes that I find really unpleasant. Whiskybase holds the answer and I’m satisfied it’s naturally presented, but even if it wasn’t I wouldn’t mind too much – it doesn’t have the Irn-Bru-like Aberlour Casg Annamh vibrancy to it. They mention that it has a real citrus flavour, it's smooth with great notes and spice, and has smoky finish.
