About this deal

I like using the applicator myself, as you're not left with a dollop of cream and nowhere to put it. The industry giants will now add their years of experience to the Solar Buddies brand, helping to expand the range and build a carbon-neutral brand.

The task is essential, but tricky; as spray and squirty bottles can get messy and take several minutes to rub into their skin. Like most parents, Charlene knows that leaving the house with SPF protection is a must - but some children might struggle with the cooling senses and refuse to wear the skincare essential. Each applicator has an easy to hold fillable handle which holds the sunscreen and a rollerball and sponge applicator. The Solar Buddies have been specially designed for children to use whilst in school; however after their launch in 2015 they have proven popular with adults too! The choice of sun protection to use in Solar Buddies is up to you, but we recommend using an alcohol free product.

Harper (aged 3) currently has a mild obsession with sun cream, and being apply to apply it for herself meant the SolarBuddy was a huge hit with her. Keeping them still for long enough to get it on them, wrestling the bottle out of their hands because they're insisting on doing it themselves, yet succeeding only in coating their clothes, AND the whole dilemma of how they're going to stay topped up on the SPF front when at school. One of the things which made the mornings a struggle here was the weather, yes the children were in their summer uniforms so in theory there are fewer clothes to get out, ready and to wrestle onto the children but with the hotter weather there was also the need for water bottles, sun hats and lots of sun cream too. It’s really easy, and there is even a place for labelling in case you have more than one and don’t want to get them mixed up. It’s important to note that when decanting sunscreen, it is essential to ensure that the new container is clean and dry before transferring the product, as any contaminants or moisture can affect the effectiveness of the sunscreen.

Kelli and Laura first came up with the idea for their child-friendly suncream applicator in response to the ‘no touch’ policies in place at their children’s schools. When sunscreens get hot they become thinner than their original state, this means sprays and oils can become almost water like and this can sometimes result in leaking from the roller ball.

We recommend that each Solar Buddy is only used by one person, even amongst siblings, for hygiene reasons. It can make sun protection a fun and interesting topic for the most independent of children, as they can apply protection for themselves! The start of a new year is often a time for change: as the kids go back to school and we wean ourselves off the Christmas food and drin. These will need replacing eventually and it is actually rather handy to have a spare should you want to wash out the sponge or change sun creams. All you need to do to enter is vote for your favourite hair, make-up and skincare products in the Fabulous Beauty Awards 2023.
