About this deal

Thom Hartmann is a progressive radio talk show host, author, and retired businessman who was born and grew up in Michigan. Learning to concentrate can be very difficult for the Hunter without consistent feedback, feedback that can be available in the classroom from the teacher. Although I agree with the basic premise, and the book does contain some original ideas and perspectives, these are fairly limited and the nature of the book is observational rather than scientific. We have resources; we have 504 plans and IEPs (in the US anyway); we have ways of helping kids reach their potential without making them feel like shit. After feeling pretty torn up and unworthy and downright confused about my place in the world, this book helped me reframe my diagnosis in a way that made me love the way my mind works while simultaneously understanding that my type of mind isn’t in fact a burden, but indeed integral to society.

From growing up shame based, square peg/ round hole, to the recognition that we have a place in the world. In the areas that were lush with plant and animal life and had a low human population density, hunters and gatherers predominated. Revealing the many ADHD opportunities hidden within the challenges of day-to-day life, Hartmann also includes tips on navigating family relationships and parenting—for most Hunter parents are also raising Hunter children. PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio. If you compare the list of classic ADHD symptoms, and the list of the characteristics of a good hunter, you’ll see that they match almost perfectly.

The rest of us who can plan out our lives and sit behind desks are the descendants of the humans who started farming. Hartmann delivers a balance of science, sociology, and humor that will help you process what it means to be a person with ADHD. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. Not unlike that quintessential of all Hunters, the lion, they have incredible bursts of energy--but not necessarily a lot of staying power. Am rating a 4 because the Kindle version included things like "For Preview Only" for what I am assuming are minor editorial changes to the new edition.
