About this deal

This book is important not just as a biography, but also as a cultural history that provides great insight to one of the best-known creative minds of the twentieth century. The Animated Man is by far the best critical study to date of Walt Disney and his worlds: corporate, personal, ideological, architectural. This biography chronicles Disney's life while keeping in view the technological and stylistic developments in animation and filmmaking that Disney helped bring about.

September is always a big month for parents and kids alike, because it always means one thing: back to school. He has also most certainly withstood the test of time – first appearing in the Peanuts comic strip in 1950, debuting on TV in 1965, and most recently appearing in the film It’s the Small Things Charlie Brown 2022. His strengths turned out to be persistence, enthusiasm, an intense focus on storytelling, and an uncanny ability to squeeze the best performance out of his staff, causing them to produce better work than they had thought possible. I would have liked to have seen more discussion on how he worked with and managed his artists, considering he didn't draw nor create any of the characters, but was a driving force behind it.It's shocking to read this book and learn that many of the classics of animation were, in the majority of cases, only moderately successful, and some were outright disasters (Pinocchio! Despite the idiosyncrasies and sometimes faults of the man, the Legend of Walt Disney will live on forever.

I wonder what Walt would say today about the accolades bestowed upon animated films that he was initially embarrassed to release and he considered failures. He too, often would get bored with projects halfway though their completion, making it difficult for them to see the finish line, especially since he had final say on EVERYTHING! Just like the "Hidden Mickeys" placed all throughout the park that you may spot or miss, the famous fish himself is a secret gem keeping the spirit of that original Disneyland attraction intact. Barrier nevertheless follows Disney in his ventures into live action film, nature documentary, and of course theme parks.however we knew that previous biographies might take creative license by eliminating certain things that may have painted Walt in any unfavorable light. Therefore we think that this book may just be one of the more accurate biographies ever printed, and we especially recommend it to anyone who is really struggling to "know" Walt Disney better. Kids now have likely never even heard of Jules Verne's classic book or seen the live-action Disney movie.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. There are good lessons in this for working through problematic and occasionally haphazard conditions to achieve a desired goal. Unlike other Disney biographies, Michael Barrier presents a Walt who was neither a saint nor a demon, but a complex human being. Barrier gives us a Walt Disney as authentic and tangible a personality as the best of the animated characters the famous studio brought to the screen.

Ora ne so di più: era un genio, un pioniere, uno che aveva voglia di sperimentare, di provare, di fallire. One could always skip the peregrinations of the Disney family even if what happened then bears on what follows. I'm not really a Disney fan and probably wouldn't have sought out a book about him but heard about this book and decided to give it a try. Not always a fun book, but definitely full of interesting nuggets, and a worthwhile read for any fan of Disney or the industry. For example, his vision for Epcot Center was problematic and was immediately scrapped after his death. With a huge passion for 3D and photogrammetry scanning we work passionately to bring new ideas and products to life for all CGI professionals with a frequent need to deliver lifelike visualizations under strict time constraints. In the 40s, with the European market lost to World War II, the studio shifted to producing educational films for the armed forces. It might seem as if much that the reader would like to know is passed over too quickly or ignored, but Barrier has a different goal and in the end he gets there.
