Not only are the visuals extremely appealing but the game play is variable enough that it remains interesting even after multiple rounds. This means there are two potential ways to win the game increasing fun, risk levels and replay-ability.

Your corporate attorneys can’t use the vampire loophole every time, and after a handful of failures you’re sacked.

Thirty-one years later and I still can’t believe Men at Work successfully added `Vegemite sandwich` into the lyrics of a hit song. Although this is fantastic for reaching a nerve-racking climax, it’s not conducive to interesting decision-making. Men at Work is an absolute blast, and one of the only games my group begs me to bring week after week. The cleanup aspect of the game is also pretty fun; it’s a different challenge trying to fish that brick out of the somewhat collapsed structure without knocking anything else off.

Stars – An excellent stacking game that’s fun for all and will challenge your manual and dexterity skills. The start player decides where the supports will go and then places one girder of each color onto the supports. The end of the game is triggered by one of three conditions: Every player except one has lost all of their safety certificates, one player reaches the required amount of Worker of the Month awards (between 3 and 5 depending on the number of players), or if construction halts (all workers are on site or you run out of building materials).

Its spills are hilarious, offloading the burden of cleanup to some other poor sucker, and although its risks are soaring and mighty, they’re adequately compensated when achieved. If you like to keep a small, finely curated collection of games, then Men at Work might fit that perfect niche of a dexterity game like it did for me.

You’re allowed to move other pieces as you place your own, but only if you move them with the piece you’re trying to place. But, you also have to impress Rita, the boss, with your productivity if you want to be made Employee of the Month. If they cause an accident during clean up, they will also give up a safety certificate and miss their go.

The construction cards get shuffled and the boss card, Rita, gets put in the deck about a quarter of the way down. Otherwise, it gives me everything I want while sticking to the familiar formula of building a structure and hoping it doesn’t fall. Think of classic games like tiddlywinks, marbles, Subbuteo, even throwing playing cards into a bowl. The production values are really high, even the box insert is perfectly formed to hold everything in place, with the worker meeples lined up like a little terracotta army. The card that is still face down on the top of the deck will tell you what you have to add to the site – a girder or a worker – and what colors you may use. When even your worst mistakes can be stepping stones toward becoming the hottest man, there’s no reason to regret them. It’s a competition to find out who’s the best at holding their nerves, and their construction materials. My group and I were big fans of the variant rules which really help enhance the base rules but also add to the replay value.
